Interior painting in Calgary
Fix On Call provides interior painting Calgary homeowners, landlords and sellers can rely on, with the emphasis on careful preparation, clean cut lines and finishes that hold up to daily life. Walls, trim, doors and ceilings are planned and scoped before the first drop sheet goes down, and the estimate is free.

Paint is the fastest way to change how a room looks and feels, and it is also the finish people judge most closely. A wall can look fine from across the room and still show roller marks, patchy touch-ups or wavy cut lines up close, which is why the work is planned around preparation rather than speed.
Fix On Call takes on interior painting for Calgary homeowners, landlords and people getting a property ready to list. Typical projects include:
If your project is on the outside of the house, see our exterior painting in Calgary page. Outside work deserves its own plan, because weather, substrate and coating choices are completely different.
There is no fixed schedule for repainting a room. How often it is needed depends on how hard the space is used and how well the last coat went on. A few common signs it is time:
Moisture-related peeling and leak stains should have their cause dealt with first. Painting over an active leak, or over a bathroom wall that never gets ventilated, only hides the problem for a while.
Preparation usually starts with moving or covering furniture and masking floors, switch plates and hardware. Surfaces are then cleaned where needed, because paint will not bond well to kitchen grease, bathroom residue or dust. Nail holes, dents and hairline cracks are filled, allowed to dry and sanded flush. Patched areas are spot-primed so they do not flash through the finish coat as dull patches. Glossy trim is scuffed so new paint grips, and open gaps along trim and corners are caulked.
That kind of minor patching is part of normal prep, so walls are ready for paint in the same visit. If a wall needs more than surface filling, mention it when you request your estimate so it can be looked at before the scope is set.
Sheen affects both appearance and durability. Flat or matte hides wall imperfections and suits ceilings and low-traffic bedrooms, but marks easily. Eggshell and satin finishes are the common choice for living areas, hallways and children’s rooms because they take light cleaning. Higher-sheen semi-gloss is the usual pick for trim, doors and windows, and for bathrooms and kitchens where moisture and splashes are an issue.
Ceilings are normally painted in a flat finish so light does not highlight roller marks or drywall seams. Keeping the same sheen on every wall in a room also matters, because a mix of sheens shows up clearly when sunlight rakes across the surface.
Trim is often where a repaint succeeds or fails. A durable enamel applied over properly sanded and primed trim gives a smooth, hard surface that is easy to wipe down.
Older homes often have trim that was originally finished with oil-based paint. Water-based paint applied straight over it can peel, so that trim needs a light sanding and a bonding primer first. A quick test with rubbing alcohol on a cloth shows which type you have: water-based paint softens and transfers to the cloth, oil-based paint does not.
Ceilings are the most tiring part of any repaint and the part most often rushed. Stains from past leaks need to be sealed with a stain-blocking primer before finishing, or they will bleed back through the paint. Interior doors are best painted with the hardware removed, and given proper drying time before they are closed against the frame.
Calgary winters are cold and very dry, and homes run their furnaces for months. Dry indoor air speeds up drying, but water-based paint can flash dry at the edges and show lap marks if a wall is rolled too slowly.
Cold weather also limits ventilation, since opening windows lets in freezing air. Low-odour, water-based interior paints are generally the practical choice in winter, and rooms should still be aired between coats where the weather allows. Sanding and patching create fine dust, so floors and furnishings are covered and surfaces are wiped down before painting begins.
Bathrooms are the most demanding room in any house. Daily shower steam is hard on paint, so a moisture-resistant bathroom paint, a working exhaust fan and enough drying time before the first shower make more difference than the colour you choose.
North-facing rooms read cooler and greyer, while south and west light warms colours in the afternoon. Test a sample on the wall itself, in more than one spot, and look at it in morning, midday and evening light with your lamps on before committing.
Warm whites and soft greys remain popular because they work with most flooring and furniture, but a darker accent wall or deep trim colour can add character if the room has enough light. If you are painting to sell, neutral and consistent usually wins. If you are painting for yourself, choose something you will enjoy in the room every day.
Painting is often one part of a bigger refresh, and the order matters. When new floors are going in, walls and ceilings are normally painted first so drips and roller spatter land on the old flooring. Baseboards are often removed for a floor installation, so the final coat on trim can go on once they are reinstalled and the gaps are caulked.
Fix On Call also handles flooring installation in Calgary, including vinyl plank, laminate and engineered floors, so painting and flooring can be planned together as one scope.
If you are getting a home ready to sell or rent, painting is usually one of the last jobs before photos or showings, once repairs and cleaning are done.
Every project starts with a free estimate. Tell us which rooms you want painted, what condition the walls and trim are in, and any deadlines. We confirm the scope with you before work starts: which surfaces, what prep is needed, how many coats, and which finishes are going on. From there the work follows a simple order:
Painting more than a few rooms, or the outside as well? Our house painters in Calgary page gives an overview of all of our painting services.
It depends on room size, ceiling height, how much prep the surfaces need, the number of coats and whether trim, doors and ceilings are included. Call 403-714-0080 or send the contact form for a free estimate based on your actual rooms.
Yes. Walls, ceilings, baseboards, casing and doors can all be included in the same scope, and mixing sheens (flat on the ceiling, durable enamel on trim) gives the best result.
Most paints are dry to the touch within hours, and rooms are normally usable the same day or the next. Full cure takes longer, so avoid scrubbing walls or pushing furniture tight against fresh trim for a couple of weeks.
Small patches such as nail holes, dents, hairline cracks and open gaps along trim are part of normal prep. If a wall has larger damage, mention it when you request your estimate so it can be assessed as part of the scope.
Yes. Interior work does not depend on outdoor temperatures the way exterior painting does. Low-odour, water-based paints suit the winter months, and rooms are aired between coats when the weather allows.
Not completely. It helps to remove small items, wall art and anything fragile beforehand. Larger furniture is usually moved to the middle of the room and covered so walls and trim can be reached. Mention anything that cannot be moved when you book.
Tell us which rooms you want painted and what condition they are in, and we will come back with a clear scope and a free estimate. Planning exterior work as well? See our exterior painting in Calgary page.
