Calgary stucco
Fix On Call is a Calgary stucco contractor for homeowners who want the work explained before it starts. We repair cracks and hail damage, patch and colour-match damaged sections, fix failing parging, and have completed new stucco installation using a 2-inch EIFS system. Below is a plain-language guide to how stucco works on Calgary homes and what to look for when you compare stucco companies.

Repairs and patching
Cracks, hail damage, impact holes and worn sections, repaired with texture and colour matched to the wall around them. Our page on stucco repair in Calgary walks through how a repair is scoped.
Parging and foundation edges
Foundation walls, entries and lower masonry where the coating has cracked, separated or started flaking, recoated to match the rest of the exterior. See parging repair for Calgary foundations.
New stucco and EIFS
When patching no longer makes sense, a new finish can be the better scope. Read about our bungalow stucco installation with a 2-inch EIFS system.
Stucco is a cement-based or acrylic exterior finish applied in layers over the wall. Most stucco homes in the city use one of three systems, and knowing which one you have changes how it should be repaired.
Calgary weather works on all three. Chinook winds can push temperatures above freezing in the middle of winter before the cold returns, so water sitting in a crack freezes and expands again and again. Summer hail can pit or punch through a finish in one storm, strong UV fades colour, and dry winter air pulls moisture out of materials quickly. Small issues caught early are usually simple repairs. The same crack left for a few winters can let water reach the sheathing behind it.
Start with our overview of stucco and parging repair services, or send a few photos and we will tell you what the work actually involves before anything is scheduled.
Most stucco companies in Calgary can make a wall look tidy on the day the crew leaves. The difference shows up a winter or two later. These are the questions worth asking any contractor, us included, before you agree to a scope.
1. What is causing the damage?
A crack is a symptom. Moisture behind the wall, settling, a leaking window or an impact can all look similar at first. A good contractor explains the likely cause, because patching without dealing with it means the crack comes back.
2. Will loose material come off first?
Patching over stucco that has lost its bond is one of the most common reasons repairs fail. Ask whether hollow or soft areas will be cut back to a sound edge before new material goes on.
3. Which system is on the house?
Traditional stucco, acrylic finishes and EIFS are repaired differently. Foam-backed EIFS, for example, needs damaged insulation and mesh rebuilt, not just a skim coat. The system should be identified before the job is priced.
4. How will texture and colour be matched?
Ask how the new finish will be blended into the existing wall. On older, sun-faded stucco an exact match is not always possible, and you should hear that before the work starts, not after.
5. What is the weather plan?
Cement-based stucco should not go onto a frozen wall or be allowed to freeze while it cures, and hot, dry wind can dry a finish coat too fast. Ask how timing and curing will be handled for your job.
6. Is the scope written down?
A written scope that lists the areas, the repair method and the finish makes quotes from different contractors easier to compare and avoids surprises halfway through the job.
Repair is usually the right call
If the damage is localized, such as a section of cracking, a failed parging area or hail pitting on one side of the house, targeted repair is almost always more cost-effective than redoing the whole surface. Fix On Call will tell you honestly what makes sense.
When the damage is widespread
Widespread delamination, moisture damage behind the surface or failure across several walls can make a new finish the better long-term investment. That might mean re-stuccoing, or moving to an insulated EIFS system like the bungalow project we documented. It is a conversation worth having before committing to a repair scope.
Photos help more than descriptions
A close-up of the damage and a wider shot of the full wall surface tell us more than a description of “cracks.” Send photos with your inquiry and we can give a much sharper first assessment of what you are dealing with.
Traditional stucco is a hard, cement-based coating applied in layers over lath. EIFS starts with foam insulation board attached to the wall, followed by a mesh-reinforced base coat and a finish coat. The two can look similar from the street, but EIFS adds insulation and is repaired differently, so it is worth knowing which one your home has.
Small repairs are sometimes possible during mild spells, but cement-based materials need to stay above freezing while they cure. Larger stucco jobs are usually planned for spring through fall, or done inside heated enclosures when they cannot wait.
Watch for staining that runs down from window corners, white powdery deposits on the surface, bulging or soft spots, sections that sound hollow when tapped, and cracks that keep reopening. Any of these is worth having looked at before another freeze-thaw season.
Yes, once the material has cured and as long as the coating is made for masonry. Stucco needs a breathable or elastomeric exterior coating rather than ordinary siding paint. Fix On Call also handles exterior painting, so the repair and the finish can be planned together.

Send a few photos and a short description of what you are seeing. Fix On Call will review the damage and tell you what the work actually involves before anything is scheduled. Prefer to talk it through? Call 403-714-0080 or email service@fixoncall.ca.
