Considered layout. Tidy transitions. A finished feel underfoot.
Whether it is a kitchen and dining area, a bedroom or a long hallway, the new floor should make sense in the space and carry through cleanly where rooms meet. We can update a single room or a connected main floor, and we plan the layout so the planks run the way the room is actually used.

A floor is more than a material choice. Its direction, the way it meets another surface, and the work around the edges all decide how the room comes together. Each estimate spells out what is included, so you know the scope before any work begins.
Vinyl plank is a popular choice for kitchens, bathrooms, entries and basements because it copes well with moisture and everyday wear. It still needs a flat, clean base, since the thin planks will show any ridge or dip underneath.
Laminate gives a wood-look surface that suits living areas, bedrooms and hallways. It floats over underlay rather than being fastened down, which is why correct expansion gaps along the walls matter so much.
Engineered flooring has a layered core that is more stable than solid boards when the air changes. It suits main floors where you want a warmer, more natural look without the movement of solid wood.
Hardwood gives a room a warm, finished feel, but it is the least forgiving of the four. Subfloor condition, layout direction, moisture and expansion all need planning before the first board goes down. Our article on hardwood floor installation in Calgary homes goes into what a careful install involves. Ask us which material fits your rooms, your household and your budget.
Calgary winters are very dry, and indoor humidity can swing a long way between January and a humid July. Flooring responds to that. Planks expand a little when the air is damp and shrink when it is dry, and a floor installed without allowing for it can gap, buckle or peak at the seams.
A careful install allows for this in three ways. First, planks are brought into the house and left to acclimate to the room before installation, following the manufacturer’s guidance. Second, floating floors are installed with an expansion gap around the perimeter and at doorways, which is then covered by baseboard or transition pieces. Third, the floor is not run tight against walls, cabinets or stairs, because it needs room to move through the seasons.
Most flooring problems start below the surface. Before any plank goes down, the subfloor should be looked at for flatness, loose or squeaking boards, old adhesive, and signs of moisture. Floating floors flex and eventually fail over an uneven base, so where a floor is out of flat, levelling can be included in the scope and confirmed in your estimate.
Basements and concrete slabs need extra care. Concrete can hold and pass moisture, so a slab should be assessed before new flooring goes over it, with a suitable underlay or vapour barrier where the flooring calls for one. A slab moisture check can be included in the scope and confirmed in your estimate. If a basement shows active dampness, the right move is to fix the source first rather than cover it.

Whether the plan is one room, a main-floor refresh, or a set of connected spaces, the goal is the same: a surface that no longer makes the rest of the home feel dated. Browse all of our repair and finishing services.
Timing depends on the size of the area and the prep involved. A single room can often be finished in a day, while a full main floor usually takes several days, and your estimate sets out a realistic timeline once the space has been seen.
Working with a Calgary-based installer can make site visits, measuring and follow-up questions simpler. Our article on the benefits of local contractors for flooring projects explains why.
Once the floors are in, the walls and trim often look tired next to them. Fix On Call also offers interior painting, and planning the two together makes it easier to sequence the work so both the floors and the paint finish clean. See our house painting services for more.
One room can often be done in a day. A full main floor takes longer, and removing the old floor or repairing the subfloor adds time. The schedule is confirmed in your estimate.
It can be included in the scope. Tell us what is currently down when you ask for a quote, and removal and disposal will be confirmed in your estimate.
Generally yes. Most planks should acclimate in the room before installation, which matters in Calgary where indoor humidity changes with the seasons.
Often, yes, with the right underlay and a slab that is flat and dry. A slab moisture check can be included in the scope, and any dampness should be dealt with before new flooring goes down.
Yes. Hardwood can be installed as well as vinyl plank, laminate and engineered flooring. Subfloor condition and moisture matter even more with solid wood, so both are discussed when the estimate is prepared.
